Things to ask your officiant

As an officiant, it is important to address the guests and share any wishes they have for the ceremony.

1. An Unplugged Ceremony: you may see a sign asking for the ceremony to be unplugged. This means that the bride and groom want you to enjoy their moment. They will have a photographer, and will share the photos. Although you may have a great phone camera, let the photographer take the pictures.

2. Info on logistics: sometimes a couple may ask that everyone remain seated during the ceremony. Sometimes people stand out of perceived respect as the bride walks down the aisle, but there may be family members or friends that cannot stand, and this ensures everyone can see. Or many outside weddings have guests form a line on each side as a “pathway”. This can symbolize a few things, one being the guests are each taking part in supporting the continued love of the couple.

3. Acknowledgements: these can include recognizing family that has passed but are with the couple in spirit, or thanking the guests for coming and celebrating the day.

4. Announcements: these can take place before and after the ceremony, but can include where the reception is, if there is a cocktail hour while the couple takes photos, or any other details.
